FAQ

What are the hours of operation?
9 am - 5 pm Monday through Friday

Do I need an appointment?
No, you may come as a 'walk-in' patient and you will be seen as soon as a doctor is available. However, this 'first-come first served' basis will occasionally be disrupted for urgent needs and to accommodate scheduled appointments. When you book an appointment in advance, we reserve specific treatment times for you. If possible, it is recommended that you schedule an appointment so that you may choose a time most convenient for you to attend.

What do I need to book an appointment?
The receptionist wants to help you. They need to know your name, BC HealthCare number, contact information and the nature of your visit. Please let her know if your visit is for an urgent or non urgent problem, a follow up visit, a complete physical, insurance or driver's physical. This information enables the receptionist to book an appropriate appointment for you. Medical forms to be filled out should be shown to the receptionist since some information on the form may have to be filled out before seeing the doctor.

Do I need to cancel if I can’t make a scheduled appointment?
YES. Please notify the office of cancellations as soon as possible so other patients can be accommodated.

Can someone else view my medical record or ask questions about my personal treatment plan?
Your medical record is strictly private. No information will be given to anyone without your permission.

I am taking medicine from somewhere else – how do I get the prescription renewed?
The doctor will need to see you before renewing your prescription. Bring your pill bottles or a list of medications with you.

The doctor ordered lab tests and/or x-rays. How will I know if they are normal?
Please check with your doctor on how you will receive your results. If your results are NORMAL you will usually not be called. Your doctor may call you, have the nurse call you or may want to discuss the results with you in person. Test results are not always back on the same day. If you are concerned and/or if your symptoms persist, schedule an appointment or come as a walk-in patient.

Can I get the flu shot or allergy shots at Beach Avenue Medical Clinic?
Flu shots will be offered free of charge to seniors and patients at risk during flu season and may also be available to the general public at a fee. Allergy shots are routinely given to patients needing them although it is recommended that an appointment be scheduled.

Does my Care Card cover all health-related services?
Services not covered by BC Health (i.e. uninsured services) include: examinations for employment, drivers license, insurance, travel and immigration, some injections, removal of cosmetic lesions, letters and forms. The receptionist will inform you if you are required to pay for any part of your office visit.
